Civil society organization (CSOs) have played a critical role in Myanmar’s health system for decades. However, based on our experience with working in the field with CSOs, we find that uniformity of knowledge for Universal Health Coverage is a gap we need to fill quickly. Many providers have knowledge gaps in overall health systems functioning and are familiar only with HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria because of dedicated funding streams for such vertical programs.
Magway
This project intended to facilitate to empower the enabling enviroment for HIV key populations with the coordination between Members of Parliament and Community Network Consortium (CNC) consisting 8 community networks working on HIV and AIDS and partner organizations.
Right to information is internationally recognised as a human right, protected as part of the right to freedom of expression, which includes a right to seek and receive as well as to impart, information and ideas. The new government made commiment for anti-corruption and open and transparent government.
Pyi Gyi Khin has been building capacity of civil society organizations in a good understanding of key principles underlying the right to information so as to be able to engage effectively to promote a strong Right to Information law in Myanmar.
Current activities undertaken in Myanmar
For the past 10 years PGK has implemented not only HIV prevention among vulnerable groups but also care and support activities, including treatment of opportunistic infections (OI) for PLHAs. PGK has grown into an organization with a strong skill set with planning, managing and implementing the projects though the implementation of 3DFund Round I and III.
